Dr. Krishnamoorthy KM is a retired Senior Grade Professor of Cardiology from the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), Trivandrum, India, where he led the Pediatric Cardiology program for 27 years. A distinguished alumnus of Kerala University with First Rank and six gold medals in MBBS, he holds advanced qualifications including MD, DM, DNB in Pediatrics and Cardiology, along with fellowships from the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh (FRCP). His clinical work is highlighted by his pioneering development of non-fluoroscopic, echocardiography-guided device closures for congenital heart defects, which eliminated radiation exposure during procedures like ASD and PDA closures. Alongside heading his division and department at SCTIMST, he helped launch pediatric cardiac interventional programs in five centers across India and served on the National Consensus Committee drafting guidelines for congenital heart diseases.
As a prominent academic and researcher, Dr. Krishnamoorthy has authored 189 indexed peer-reviewed journal articles, contributed chapters to seven medical textbooks, and reviewed for 28 medical journals. He served as a co-investigator on 16 major research initiatives, including a ₹20.28 Crore DBT Centre of Excellence and the indigenous development of nitinol-based occlusion devices. His clinical expertise is further recognized through live procedure demonstrations at 16 national and international workshops, as well as multiple prestigious accolades, including the Best Innovation Award from the National Interventional Council in 2022 and the CSI Indian Innovation Award in 2011.
